Apple Chutney For Cheese

There’s something quietly special about a jar of properly made apple chutney. Ours starts with ripe apples, a generous hit of fresh ginger and warm cardamom, then simmers until the flavours deepen into something bright, gently spicy and completely moreish. It’s the kind of preserve that makes ordinary cheese feel like a proper treat.

Three ways we love using it:

1.  Spoon it straight onto a board with mature cheddar, soft goat’s cheese or a good blue – the sweet-sharp balance cuts through the richness perfectly.

2.  Swirl a spoonful into natural yoghurt for an instant, fragrant dip that works with crisps, crudités or warm naan.

3.  Stir a little into the last few minutes of a curry or stir-fry; it lifts the whole dish with a fresh, aromatic note you won’t get from anything else.
